Since I can remember I have had an interest in the natural world, especially birds. By progression this lead to the desire to photograph what I had seen.

Overtime I have bought various cameras and equipment in the pursuit of my hobby, I now realise that the old adage ‘you get what you pay for’ is relevant, especially where photographic equipment is concerned.

I tried my hand at Digiscoping; digiscoping is taking photographs with a digital compact camera through the eyepiece of a telescope. This appeared to be a slightly cheaper option to expensive camera lenses.

By attaching the bracket to the telescope and the camera to the bracket, the camera could be swung out of the way when using the scope and then folded back into position over the eyepiece to take the photograph.

The selling point was, it is possible to take high-class pictures through high-end telescopes using quite a simple technique.

I found it extremely difficult to get sharp photographs, the slightest movement caused camera shake and resulted in blurred photographs. (Or perhaps it was my eyesight)

Sandwich Terns (Behaving badly)

Anyway, I have recently been able to purchase a Canon 30D digital SLR and a Canon 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 lens.

I am having great fun, I hope you enjoy the photographs as much as I do.
